A recent deal to sell 10 area Martin’s Food Markets stores to Florida-based supermarket retailer Publix contained a noticeable void.
Only two of the 10 stores the high-end grocer is buying are located south of the James River — one in far western Chesterfield County and one in Colonial Heights.
Publix isn’t buying six Martin’s stores in Chesterfield and one in South Richmond, and that has caused some consternation and surprise among shoppers in that part of the metro area.
