Trumbull, CT – The NGA Show today announced a volunteer effort, sponsored by Cub Foods and in partnership with MATTER that will provide healthy snacks and nutrition education to those in need in the local San Diego area.
On Sunday, February 23, immediately following the Opening Keynote Session, volunteers will pack more than 1,000 MATTERbox meals, which will be delivered to the San Diego Food Bank for distribution. Each healthy pack will include items donated from Okanagan Specialty Fruits and Mondelez International, Inc., as well as nutrition information and a YouMATTER note, which offers a way that those packing can share an inspirational message with the recipients.
“We are delighted to partner with MATTER and Cub Foods to provide NGA Show attendees an opportunity to help those in need in the San Diego area. MATTER is helping to fuel positive change and strengthen communities. We look forward to this event and supporting this great cause in an impactful way,” said Courtney Muller, Chief Corporate Development & Strategy Officer, Clarion Events North America.
“Whether it’s organizing volunteers or raising money for worthy causes, contributing products and goods to those in need, sponsoring sports teams, scout troops, and programs for veterans, the dedication to serve is ingrained in the independent supermarket industry,” said NGA President and CEO Greg Ferrara. “At any opportunity to pitch in and help those in need, you know you will find an independent grocer there.”
Information on how to participate as a volunteer to pack boxes during The NGA Show event will be made available in January. Full details on the MATTERbox program can be found here.
In addition to this volunteer event, The NGA Show will also offer attendees an opportunity to attend more than 60 educational workshops and sessions, view new products and service suppliers on the EXPO floor with more than 400 exhibitors, and engage in various networking opportunities, such as the Best Bagger Championship, the student mentoring programs, and the Closing Celebration.
