New Kroger In Gross Point, MI Features Wood Flooring

The olive and antipasto bar, stocked with everything from black bella di cerignolas to edamame hummus, stood perpendicular to a fresh sushi case. Several feet away, ciabatta and three-cheese semolina artisan breads were stacked into a neat display.

The produce section's wood floor led to an organic-foods area and the steward-manned wine section, which included an $85.99 bottle of Fisher Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Coach Insignia.

The Grosse Pointe Kroger store on Kercheval that reopened Sunday with these amenities represents the latest in the Cincinnati-based chain's effort to upgrade some of its supermarkets — approximately 2,400 across the U.S., including 134 in Michigan.

Since 2005, Kroger has expanded 13 stores and remodeled 53 in Michigan, most of them in metro Detroit, according to spokesman Dale Hollandsworth. During the last half-decade in Michigan, the supermarket giant has opened two new stores, relocated four others and bought 20 more.
