The groceries drew them into the store.
But the music, drinks, dinner and dancing made the Bexley couple turn their weekly shopping trip into a night on the town.
Ian Nickey and his wife, Katherine, went to the Brewers Yard Kroger store on a recent Friday evening after work to pick up staples: bread, milk, eggs and such. But when they heard the band Luxury Brown Lite playing R&B tunes by artists such as Chaka Khan, Michael Jackson and Sade in the store's bar – yes, bar – they set aside their groceries, grabbed a drink and sat down to enjoy the music.
The couple have since been back on several Friday nights to buy their groceries and then hang out. "I mean, we need to get groceries anyway," Mr. Nickey said as he grabbed a table at the Kroger bar. "For us, it's a convenience, and it makes the shopping fun. It's a great concept."
