Naan has made its name well known in the Western world as the leavened, fluffy companion to many West, Central and South Asian dishes with its origins lying in modern day Iran. While several of variations to baking methods and ingredients exist, Naan is usually prepared in a clay oven, or tandoor. While having minimal to no market penetration in areas between the coasts, Naan without a doubt has made its presence known in the trend-setting markets of New York and California.
Using the Food Genius menu analytics dashboard, naan is found in 3% of all menus nationwide. More specifically, naan is found on 79% of all Indian menus and 5% of American menus. The average price of all dishes that contain naan is $7.66 with 86% of all prices falling between $1.53 and $13.79.
91% of naan dishes are served with vegetables, the most common being garlic, onion, and potato. The Food Genius database also tells us that 70% of naan dishes are paired with a protein, most commonly lamb and chicken.
