WALKER, MI — Nearly three years after being named Meijer Inc.'s youngest company president, James Kevin "J.K." Symancyk is leaving to take the helm of Houston, Texas-based retailer Academy Sports + Outdoors.
Symancyk, 43, officially becomes the company's chief executive officer Nov. 2. His last day at Meijer is Oct. 9.
He is credited for leading the estimated $15 billion retail chain to one of its biggest growth phases and launching a $750 million expansion into Wisconsin.
