Jungle Jim’s CEO Jim Bonaminio Fits In With Regular Folks

Though he owns and runs Greater Cincinnati's 112th largest private company with $86 million in sales, Jungle Jim's International Market CEO Jim Bonaminio says he doesn't fit in with most Courier 250 business owners.

"In a get together, you will find me with the regular people," Bonaminio told a Fairfield Chamber of Commerce crowd. "You won't find me with the rich people because I don't fit in."

Bonaminio, who started what has become one of America's most unique supermarkets, told the story of how he started buying produce from Cincinnati Reds and Castellini Cos. owner Bob Castellini in 1972.

"When I started in the produce business, I knew nothing," said Bonaminio, who now employs 400 at his complex on Ohio Route 4 in Fairfield. "All these big shots were trying to put me out of business. But I developed relationships with the loaders. They taught me a lot."
