Hamthropology Introduces Registered Ossabaw Island Pork To Georgia Culinary Market

ATLANTA – Hamthropology, dedicated to the preservation of the Ossabaw Island Pigs and their heritage, today announced the introduction of  Registered Ossabaw Island Pork to the Georgia culinary market.

Ossabaw Island pigs are critically-endangered heritage pigs, descended from the famous Iberico pigs from Spain, commonly referred to as "four legged olive trees" because their tasty fat is high in oleic acid, the same heart-healthy fat found in olive oil.

Hamthropology founders Marc and Lydia Mousseau converted their Island Creek Preserve farm near Milledgeville, Georgia, to accommodate a herd of free-range sustainable Registered Ossabaw Island Pork.

Georgia-based 5 Seasons Brewing Company and Red Brick Brewing are supplementing the diet of the Island Creek Preserve pigs by converting their spent brew grains from their brewing operations into sustainable feed.

"We are delighted that the by-products of these beers are helping to raise the pork that will appear on their diners' plates," commented Marc Mousseau, co-founder, Hamthropology.

David Larkworthy, executive chef of the 5 Seasons Brewing Company in Atlanta, has been serving Registered Ossabaw Island Pork as a local farm-to-table charcuterie product, and the special menu item has become a favorite among his patrons.

"Ossabaw Island pigs are uniquely special and are both nutritious and delicious," commented Larkworthy.

About Hamthropology

Hamthropology is dedicated to the preservation of the Ossabaw Island pigs and their heritage. Its closed breeding herds are raised free-range on Island Creek Preserve, a farm in middle Georgia, and are registered with the American Large Breed Conservancy (ALBC).

Hamthropology's  mission is to keep the Ossabaw Island pigs'  bloodlines pure  through the selective breeding of purebred animals. This premium bloodline produces only a few hundred animals nationwide annually. Therefore, supply is limited. We monitor our herds closely but allow natural genetic selection, which is one of the aspects that make our pigs so special. (http://hamthropology.com)
