CORPUS CHRISTI — H-E-B is celebrating 80 years in Corpus Christi and the grocery chain is throwing a yearlong party for customers and friends.
Corpus Christi saw its first H-E-B store in 1931, four in fact.
To commemorate that occasion, it's hosting a kickoff ceremony Wednesday at Driscoll Children's Hospital, where H-E-B officials will unveil a year's worth of events planned for area stores.
Officials also will treat patients to an H-E-B birthday cake, presents and an appearance by the chain's mascot, H-E-Buddy.
