SAN DIEGO — A judge has fined the owners of Fresh & Easy stores for charging more for items than the posted or advertised prices.
San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis said Tuesday the judge ordered Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market Inc. to pay $833,136.
Superior Court Judge Randa Trapp also ordered stores to offer consumers $3 off the lowest advertised price if they are overcharged. If the item is $3 or less, it will be free.
Prosecutors in San Diego and Riverside counties filed a civil complaint alleging the company posted advertised prices in stores and then charged more at the register.
