The restaurant industry has concocted a way to soothe taxpayer pain on Tax Day: free eats. And Tax Day discounts, too.
Cinnabon, Maggie Moo's and Dairy Queen are handing out free samples. Taco Del Mar is doling out free tacos, and Starbucks has free coffee. McCormick & Schmick's, P.F. Chang's and Whole Foods all have special discounts. Kind gestures, all.
But the restaurant industry has more than kindness up its apron. This is about filling seats, bolstering image and nudging folks to try new products at a time the industry is starting to recover from a nearly two-year downturn that ranks among the worst ever.
