Cheney Brothers Hits Job Target Three Years Early

CHARLOTTE COUNTY — Economic developers in Charlotte County say that Cheney Brothers Inc., a major food distributor in the Southeastern U.S., has exceeded expectations for job creation with its $100 million investment in a massive distribution center in Punta Gorda.

The Riviera Beach-based company was required to hire 380 people within five years in return for incentives it received from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and the Florida Department of Transportation.

The company hit that number in two years at the 250,000-square-foot operation on 35 acres off Interstate 75, and it's still growing, Charlotte County economic developers said Monday.

The center supplies food to customers from Marco Island through the Tampa Bay area.
