Just last week it was reported that developer Steiner NYC had filed plans with the Department of Buildings to build the city’s first Wegmans supermarket along Brooklyn Navy Yard’s Admiral’s Row. Things seemed to be progressing along as planned but that tune has now been changed, reports the Brooklyn Paper.
Steiner NYC is still in the process of obtaining all of the necessary permits needed before they can begin building the proposed five-story building that will house the 250,000-square-foot grocer, thus delaying the projected completion date. "The project as a whole has been pushed back slightly," stated Brooklyn Navy Yard’s PR rep, Chris Singleton. Instead of opening in 2017, the store is now anticipating an opening date in mid to late 2018.
The building will replace dilapidated homes along history Admiral’s Row, where naval officers once lived during the Civil War era. The store will span across the ground and mezzanine floors with light manufacturing operating on the tops floors.
