ST. LOUIS – Leaders of St. Louis-based Schnuck Markets, Inc. today announced Anthony T. Hucker has joined the company as Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, effective September 30.
“Anthony is a tremendous talent who shares our values; he’s customer-focused and a true merchant in every sense,” said Chairman and CEO Scott Schnuck. “We expect that he will add velocity to efforts that will ensure Schnucks’ continued growth and success.”
Building on a 30-year career in the retail industry, Anthony previously served as president of Giant Food, based in Landover, Md. and on the Executive Board of parent company Ahold USA. Anthony oversaw the operation of 169 supermarkets in the Mid-Atlantic region and ensured Giant remained the market share leader in both Washington, D.C. and Baltimore.
Prior to joining Giant, Anthony spent seven years at Wal-Mart in a variety of leadership positions. During his tenure as Corporate Vice President, he pioneered and activated the Wal-Mart Express concept. Anthony began his career in the European retail industry as a food industry analyst. He then worked for 10 years with Aldi, where he served in a variety of leadership assignments in Germany, Austria and the United States as well as part of the original start up team for Aldi UK.
Graduating with honors, Anthony holds a Bachelor of Arts in Retail Marketing from the University of Manchester and a Diploma in International Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing and has continued executive education in technology, strategy, leadership and mergers and acquisitions at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard Business School, and University of Chicago Booth School of Business respectively.
