SAN LEANDRO — Andronico's Community Markets has launched a campaign to encourage Bay Area shoppers to buy and eat local foods.
The San Leandro-based grocer, which has five locations in the Bay Area, is labeling all locally made products in its stores and has invited small farmers, growers and food entrepreneurs to offer samples of their products to store customers. Andronico's, named one of country's best neighborhood supermarkets by Bon Appetit magazine, sells about 2,350 locally made products.
The campaign will go through the end of the year and will include talks about the local food movement and a chance to tour Bay Area restaurants, bakeries and fine food purveyors.
