This is the year that Giant Eagle crosses the border into the Hoosier state, opening a Market District supermarket in the Indianapolis area along with a GetGo convenience store.
Maybe a Monon Wheat beer from Cutters Brewing Co. in Avon, Ind., to celebrate? Or perhaps a Super Kitty Fantastico from Outliers Brewing Co. in Indianapolis? The grocer hasn’t said yet what it will be serving at the bar in the new store opening this fall, but ordering a martini should be safe enough.
The rules are a bit different in Indiana, and not just because the new store will be allowed to serve mixed drinks. The longtime Pittsburgh grocer is an unknown player there, and the upscale Market District will get a chance to make a first impression.
