Zespri Kiwifruit Partners With Tajin Fruit To Hook Hispanic Consumers

Redwood City, Calif (October 7, 2010) — ZESPRI partnered with Tajin Fruit Seasoning to introduce and educate Hispanic consumers about the unique taste, five-star nutrition and versatility of New Zealand kiwifruit. Tajin, the Mexico-based manufacturer of the popular tangy, spicy seasoning powder (a blend of chile peppers, salt and dehydrated lime juice), capitalized on familiarizing the Hispanic shopper with kiwifruit to provide a new usage idea.

During the ZESPRI season, the two companies sampled ZESPRI Kiwifruit rimmed with Tajin Fruit Seasoning in select Hispanic markets in Texas and California, using customer interaction and bold, new flavors to generate excitement. For Karen Brux, General Manager for ZESPRI North America, the combination of outreach and taste was the key to sales success. “More than ever, shoppers are paying attention to what they’re eating. Introducing kiwifruit alone as a terrific healthy snack is appealing, but add Tajin and you’ve created a flavor explosion. We had an instant hit with the Hispanic customer.”

According to Brux, strong sales during the promotion demonstrated the great fit for ZESPRI within the Hispanic market and the opportunity to educate on the value represented by ZESPRI’s superior nutrition, taste and convenience.
