Understanding The Ethnic Shopper Is Critical Today, Says Ta-De Produce

Nogales, AZ — In time for one of the biggest annual food holidays, Chinese New Year (starting Feb 8), Ta-De Produce is distributing a free white paper providing retailers with specific tips on how to attract the fastest-growing shopper segments in the U.S. : ethnic groups. The report, entitled Maximizing Ethnic Sales is part of a series that will address specific ethic groups and their cuisine. Part I is focused on Asians. Subsequent reports will address Hispanics and African-American/Caribbean preferences.

Ta-De president Robert Bennen, Jr. explains why the company undertook the study: “Once we released our Red Lotus ethnic specialties last year, with eggplant, bittermelon, Shishito peppers, etc, we realized that many conventional grocers wanted information on how to best merchandise and promote these items, not only to their ethnic shoppers but to Anglos increasingly experimenting with global cooking.”

This first series is focused on the fastest-growing ethnic segment in the U.S., Asians, who spend more than $30.3B in groceries per year. Data and insights used in the study came from Nielsen, Kantar Retail and an Asian marketing consultant working with Ta-De’s merchandising team. The study excerpt being distributed to retailers has five sections and addresses key questions, including, among others:

* Why are ethnic customers important to our business?

* How do I capture the information I need to build my ethnic plan?

* What is the best way to use data to build my plan?

* Which category tactics work best for ethnics?

* What are the specific items purchased by each nationality? The study is available now in PDF to interested retailers via email request to rlbennen@tade.com .
