The University of California, Davis has just announced the follwing 2017 short courses and workshops covering teh latest postharvest lessons, technology and best practices. Be sure to add the following events to your calendar.
Fruit Ripening and Ethylene Management Workshop
Coordinators: Dr. Mary Lu Arpaia and Dr. Florence Zakharov
Location: UC Davis Campus
This workshop provides valuable lessons on how to increase profits by delivering ready-to-eat and quality fruits and vegetable to consumers. Lectures will offer practical advice on managing the benefits and potential harms of ethylene. The 23rd annual workshop will be held on April 18-19, 2017.
Postharvest Technology of Horticultural Crops Short Course
Coordinator: Dr. Beth Mitcham
Location: UC Davis Campus and Central CA Field Tour
The 38th annual short course and field tour will be offered on June 19-30, 2017. This intensive study presents the best practices and up-to-date technology for handling fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and ornamentals after harvest. The first week includes lectures and labs related to the current advances in the postharvest technology of horticultural crops, while the optional second week will encompass a field tour of California.
Fresh-cut Produce: Maintaining Quality and Safety Workshop
Coordinator: Dr. Marita Cantwell
Location: UC Davis Campus
This workshop incorporates a substantive overview of the production, packaging, distribution and quality assurance of fresh-cut products. The 21st annual workshop, held on September 26-28, 2017, will feature discussions on fresh-cut marketing, new packaging, product physiology, microbial control, and sensory evaluation.
Advanced Produce Safety Alliance Training and Certification Workshop
Coordinator: Dr. Trevor Suslow
Location: UC Davis Campus
This interactive workshop focuses on microbial produce safety systems from preharvest to postharvest. The 5th annual workshop is an extended branch of the FDA-recognized Produce Safety Alliance curriculum for grower certification with training sessions built from a science-based framework. Will be offered in November 2017.
