Allen Lund Company arranged for flatbed equipment to help move a sea container from Holy Family Church in South Pasadena, CA to Miami, FL on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. Mission Haiti used the container to transport materials from Miami to Port Au Prince, Haiti.
Items transported in the container included school and medical supplies, desk chairs for teachers and tools for irrigation. Their main focus is to start new business ventures with the first year graduates of their high school. "With unemployment at 90%, the students recognized that they have to figure out a plan that will not only provide them a job, but also give them a sense of meaning," stated Karl Holtsnider, Regional Manager of Mission Haiti and Holy Family Parishioner.
The irrigation tools will be vital to a 10 acre mango plantation currently being developed in North Haiti near Bassin. Another container is scheduled for transport, carrying additional equipment to support these efforts in the coming months. "This project has so many positives in that the villagers will be working and producing a product they can then sell," said Holtsnider.
The medical supplies will be loaded onto the new Mobile Medical van, which travels throughout villages, providing free medical exams to the Haitian people, many of whom have never seen a doctor. "It is terrific for our company to be able to support Holy Family and their commitment to this cause," stated Allen Lund, President and CEO of the Allen Lund Company; adding, "We know that our efforts are vital to the rebuilding of Haiti and our number one priority right now should be education and employment."
