Taking USA Pears On The Go In The #HowDoYouAnjou? Contest

PORTLAND, Ore. – Now is an excellent time to enjoy winter varieties of USA Pears. While most consumers don’t associate USA Pears with this time of year, US Anjou, Red Anjou and Bosc pears are still widely available and eating great right now. (This is because, unlike fruits that ripen on the tree, these varieties of pears only ripen after several months rest in cold storage.) To encourage consumers to keep buying pears, Pear Bureau Northwest is launching the second annual #HowdoyouAnjou? social media contest.

The prize is a North Face Recon daypack and a set of pear protectors, for the adventurous pear lover to enjoy their pear anywhere. Winners will be chosen based on the creativity of their submission and can pick their pack. Men’sWomen’s or Unisex packs are available in a variety of colors and patterns. One prize will be awarded per hundred entrants. To enter is simple. For a chance to win, users will follow @USAPears on Instagram, then snap and post a picture with their Anjou USA pear on Instagram, wherever and however they enjoy it, use the hashtag #HowdoyouAnjou and tag @USAPears in their post. Contest runs May 29 through June 30, 2017.

In the first #HowdoyouAnjou Instagram treasure hunt and contest in 2016, entrants submitted pear snack recipes, smoothie bowls and even pears posing near a waterfall. The winner made an adorable stop motion pear video, featuring the Anjou as a balloon floating up into the sky. The 2016 contest was recognized by Produce Business magazine as a Marketing Excellence winner.

“This time of year, consumers may not think about USA Pears, but the winter varieties are still in stock and eating really well,” said Pear Bureau Northwest Marketing Director Kathy Stephenson. “We started the #HowdoyouAnjou Instagram contest to keep pears on shoppers’ minds and create some fun and excitement in the late season, encouraging purchase of pears all season long.”

“We really wanted to focus on user generated content,” said Assistant Communications Manager in charge of social media Julia Smith. “It’s so fun to see the creativity of pear lovers. While last year we were interested in simple recipes, this year we want to see where people take their pears on adventures or even around town. As the weather gets nicer, we wanted to emphasize the portability of nutritious USA Pears.”

To follow all the fun and ins-pear-ation or to join in, follow @USAPears on Instagram and Twitter and use the hashtag #HowdoyouAnjou
