Star Wars Fans Unite As Winners In Dole’s Intergalactic Celebration

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.  — From California to New Hampshire and New Brunswick to West Virginia, Star Wars fans united with Dole in an intergalactic celebration of healthy eating.  

The produce giant recently concluded the largest chapter to-date in its multiyear nutritional collaboration with Disney, with “Unite for a Healthy Galaxy.” The 18-week initiative set out to recruit generations of Star Wars fans into the Resistance for healthy living with character-inspired recipes, limited-edition stickers and a sweepstakes offering the chance to win collectable weekly prizes inspired by Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Kristin Guay of West Lebanon, N.H., was selected from among the 20,000 total sweepstakes entries to win the one Grand Prize – a collector’s set of four 1:6 scale Sideshow Star Wars figures featuring Rey, Kylo Ren, BB-8 and Luke Skywalker.  Eighteen participants from the U.S. and Canada were selected to receive the weekly prize, a SpinMaster BB-8 voice-activated droid.

“Given the immense, cross-generational appeal of Star Wars, it’s no surprise that ‘Unite’ became one of the most popular healthy living initatives we’ve created at Dole,” said Bil Goldfield, director of corporate communications for Dole. “We aimed to provide ways for families to connect healthier living with their favorite Star Wars characters, so the tens of thousands of recipe and app downloads, quiz submissions and sweepstakes entries is proof that the campaign really resonated with consumers.”

More than 20,000 participants across the U.S. and Canada entered Dole’s “Unite for a Healthy Galaxy” sweepstakes. Entrants took an interactive quiz on Dole’s dedicated campaign microsite or posted on social media using #UniteWithDole. Many more fans entered the sweepstakes by scanning DOLE fruits and vegetables in their local supermarket using the free, interactive DOLE® App.

“Unite for a Healthy Galaxy” ran from Oct. 8, 2017, through Feb. 16, 2018, in U.S. and Canadian supermarkets continentwide, and represented the latest in a series of healthy living collaborations between Dole Food Company and Disney aimed at helping parents encourage their kids and families to make healthier food and lifestyle choices. Star Wars: The Last Jedicharacters Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron and Luke Skywalker were featured on hundreds of millions of DOLE® fruits and vegetables, contributing to a program total of more than 3 billion servings of fresh produce since Dole and Disney launched their nutritional collaboration in 2016.

The campaign also included a dozen new original fruit and vegetable recipes inspired by classic – and new – Star Wars characters, droids and vehicles. These unqiue entrée, drink, smoothie and dessert recipes were specifically created for the campaign by Chef Mark Allison, director of culinary nutrition at the Dole Nutrition Institute.
