REIDSVILLE, Georgia. – June 18, 2010 – Shuman Produce, a leading Vidalia® sweet onion grower/shipper, is launching HarvestMark® PTI at the case level for a portion of the company’s year around sweet onion program.
Shuman Produce is working with HarvestMark® as one of its food safety program elements to add traceability codes to cases of sweet onions. The code can be entered at HarvestMark.com for access to harvest and logistics data, food safety status, and details about the source and grower when and where it’s needed.
“When you provide your customers with a comprehensive traceability program then food safety begins to mean something: Peace of mind,” said John Shuman, president and director of sales. “Our customers want to know that all the onions they buy from Shuman Produce – whether they are from Peru, Mexico, California, Texas or Vidalia – meet the highest food safety standards.”
The relationship with HarvestMark is the most recent in a series of food safety initiatives adopted by Shuman Produce; last year the company received a four-star rating from Primus Labs and is currently a member of Primus Labs’ platinum program.
