Shuman Produce Focuses On Food Safety

REIDSVILLE, Georgia. Feb. 3, 2010 Shuman Produce, a leading grower/shipper of year round sweet onions, will share details about its new food safety program along with new packaging at the companys booth (#301) at the Southeast Produce Councils 2010 Southern Exposure Retail & Foodservice Expo on Saturday, March 6, in Tampa.

We our increasing our transparency by becoming a member of Primus Labs platinum program,” said John Shuman, president and director of sales. We want our customers to know that all the onions they buy from Shuman Produce whether they are from Peru, Mexico, California, Texas or Vidalia are covered.
When you provide your customers with a comprehensive traceability program then food safety begins to mean something: Peace of mind. Last year Shuman Produce received a four-star rating from Primus.

At the Expo Shuman Produce will showcase its vertical 2-pound, 3-pound, 4-pound and 5-pound onion bags.

Our new bags are flying off stores shelves this season, Shuman said. Shoppers love the eye-catching graphics and on-pack information that includes recipes and health and nutrition information. We are increasing our capacity with these bags to meet the demand.

The company also has a new 5-pound mesh bag available in mid-March for its Texas sweet onion program that will be available for customers to view at the Expo.
