San Joaquin Valley Apricots Are Coming To Market

Whether made into jam, dried or fresh, apricots are ready to eat in the Valley.

The sweet-tasting apricot is one of the much-anticipated tree fruits grown in the Valley. Depending on the weather, apricots will be available at local farmers markets, roadside stands and in grocery stores through at least July.

Antonio Diaz of Diaz Farms in Fowler has been selling apricots for at least two weeks.

"People have been waiting for them all spring long," says Diaz, who sells his fruit at The Garden Market at Courthouse Park in downtown Fresno on Tuesdays.

He has early varieties, including the Poppy and Helena. Other varieties grown in the Valley include the Patterson, Tilton and Castlebrite.
