On January 26th, RedLine Solutions hosted a webinar where guest speaker, Mr. Dan Vaché, Vice President of Supply Chain from United Fresh discussed the impact of the newly passed Food Safety Modernization Act which became law on Tuesday, January 4th, 2011. Todd Baggett, CEO of RedLine Solutions said “We are extremely pleased to provide Dan’s insight and knowledge about the new food safety law as part of our educational webinar series. Our purpose with these ongoing presentations is to provide timely and relevant information to our customers in the produce industry regarding the Produce Traceability Initiative. In support of this, we have made a full recording of this webinar available for replay at: http://www.redlineforproduce.com/produce-traceability/webcasts.html.”
During the webinar, Dan Vache provided information about what the new law means from a fresh produce perspective; what food products are affected by the bill, how the law will impact fresh produce companies, what the anticipated timelines are for implementing the requirements are, and what activities we can expect to see in 2011 on PTI.
When asked about how United Fresh will be involved with the new law going forward, Vache stated that, “The impact of much of the legislation is dependent on how regulations are drafted. We will be providing extensive comments during the rule-making process and will continue to stay in front of this and address the regulatory process at every point. We have spent over four years shaping this legislation, now it’s more important than ever to stay focused on the rules that will implement the new law.”
Dan Vache closed the discussion spending several minutes responding to the audience questions including where the responsibility for traceability falls for importers, the design and purpose of the reportable food registry is, how the new law changes the PTI dates, and more.
