San Francisco, CA (March 2, 2011) – Purity Organic Produce (Purity) kicked off the 2011 organic Mexican mango season last Wednesday, February 23, 2011. This is the first shipment of the season of organic Ataulfo mangos that originate from Mexico and arrived to Nogales, Arizona for distribution throughout the US.
As a result of new a shipping system and strengthened relationships along the supply chain, from the farm to customer, Purity Organic’s Mexican organic mangos are arriving one month earlier than their first shipment of organic mangos from Mexico in 2010. Ricardo Sardans, President of Purity Organic says “We are proud of our early Mexican mangos. The growers of these organic mangos in Oaxaca work hard throughout the year and we’re happy to be able to deliver ahead of schedule for 2011.”
This first shipment of organic mangos will be Ataulfos. Tommy Atkins from the same region will be arriving in mid-March, just as the Kent mango program from Peru will be coming to a close for the season. “We’re excited to show our customers these Ataulfos from Oaxaca as they are coming in a good size for this variety and should prove to be a very tasty crop.” says Sardans who has been working with organic growers for over 7 years.
Originating from the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, Sardans also explains why this area of Oaxaca is ideal location for growing organically. “This mango orchard and the surrounding area enjoy a tropical climate year round, and because there is an underground water system with some small lakes and "arms" of water coming from the Pacific Ocean, the crops here naturally have easy access to a consistent water supply. They are also just 300 meters from the ocean and the fog helps keep the land cool.”
Like all Purity Organic produce, these mangos are USDA certified organic; an important certification especially for the mango industry at the moment where recent reports of environmental pollution by conventional mango exporters are being brought to the forefront. Greg Holzman, the founder and CEO of Purity Organic Produce, adds that “Now more than ever, choosing organic sends a loud message about how each of our seemingly small choices can add up to make a big difference for our health, the growers and our planet.”
