Over this past weekend Progressive Produce has begun harvesting their first fields of their 2015 California Asparagus crop. California asparagus is a sign of Spring’s arrival in the Golden State. Over the next two weeks, the warm weather and longer days will ramp up the spring production. Don Hessel, Asparagus General Manager for Progressive Produce noted, “The fields are in great shape and we are excited to have a strong season in terms of both supply and most importantly quality”.
For the second year in a row, Progressive Produce will have a significant increase in volume with their investment in new acreage. “We are very excited about our continued growth in California as it brings immense value to our customers” according to Cory Stahl, Sales Manager for Progressive Produce. “Our customers here in California especially want to promote locally grown asparagus because their consumers want it. Also, new crop asparagus to ship to the east coast ensures maximum shelf life this time of year”.
Progressive said they expect to have production up to full speed just in time for the early Easter demand and expect to harvest throughout May. They will be shipping California Asparagus from Stockton, Coalinga and Los Angeles.
