ORLANDO, Fla. – Power Your Lunchbox Promise by Produce for Kids is celebrating five years of encouraging families and classrooms to eat more nutritious lunches and make healthy choices while giving back more than $86,000 to children’s charities and nearly 900,000* meals to Feeding America®. Promising begins on Aug. 6 at poweryourlunchbox.com and runs through Sept. 23.
“We recognized the need five years ago to offer families support during this often-hectic time of year,” said Trish James, vice president, Produce for Kids. “The growth of Power Your Lunchbox would not be possible without the support of the healthful brands who recognize that by working together, we can be the healthy resource families need at back to school time.”
Power Your Lunchbox Promise partner brands will collectively donate $1 for every promise made to Feeding America® programs that impact children and families. This year, 10 brands will join forces in an effort to make sure families are starting the year on a healthy foot while making a difference in the fight to end hunger. Health conscious brands supporting the Power Your Lunchbox Promise are: Bee Sweet Citrus, Crispy Green®, Litehouse, NatureFresh™ Farms, Ninja® Kitchen, Pero Family Farms®, Sun-Maid, Sun World Grapes, Wholly Guacamole® and Zespri® Kiwifruit.
Partner brands are showcased in kid-friendly and registered dietitian-approved lunchbox, snack and dinner recipes on poweryourlunchbox.com, featured in national e-newsletters targeting families and included in influencer outreach during the campaign timeframe. Everyone making the promise will be entered to win a Ninja® prize pack and classrooms will be entered to win various Back to the Roots items.
Produce for Kids will host the #PowerYourLunchbox Twitter party on Aug. 16 at 4 p.m. ET encouraging questions and comments from families and will be releasing a series of back to school related podcasts on the new Produce for Kids podcast Healthy Family Project. The Twitter party and podcasts will focus on everything back to school from fueling kids’ minds with healthy lunchbox ideas to organization and meal prep.
Power Your Lunchbox sponsor NatureFresh™ Farms will be offering shoppers the chance to make the promise as part of their Mobile Greenhouse tour during the campaign timeframe. iPads and healthy lunchbox takeaways will be available at the Mobile Greenhouse.
“To date, Power Your Lunchbox Promise has contributed the equivalent of nearly 900,000* meals for Feeding America,” continued James. “The thought of an empty lunchbox is heartbreaking and it’s important that during the busy back to school time we stop and recognize there are many families who are dealing with hunger and need extra support.”
Retail dietitians will also join Power Your Lunchbox efforts by encouraging shoppers to make the Power Your Lunchbox Promise, promoting promising at in-store and school events and distributing healthy lunchbox information at the store level.
The Power Your Lunchbox Promise started in 2014 to help families during the back-to-school season.
* $1 helps provide at least 10 meals secured by Feeding America® on behalf of local member food banks.
