REIDSVILLE, Ga. March 8, 2010 Produce for Kids (PFK), an organization that promotes the benefits of healthy eating and supports worthy causes for children, celebrated the completion of its 2009 annual program and the continued support of its partner retailers and suppliers at a reception at the Southeast Produce Councils annual convention, Southern Exposure.
The cocktail reception, held Friday, March 5, recognized the retailers and sponsors who have been such a big support of PFK.
Since its inception in 2002, PFK has raised more than $2.5 million for childrens charities including Childrens Miracle Network hospitals and PBS KIDS.
Were thankful for the strong support we continue to receive from our partners, said John Shuman, PFK founder and president. We appreciate everyone who supported our mission to date and were looking forward to introducing new elements of the program in 2010.
The new elements include an expanded in-store program at some partner retailers stores with the introduction of a meal solution card program.
The program, called Ideal Meals features individual-sized cards merchandised in the produce department that offer quick, healthy meals for busy shoppers. The meal solutions, developed by registered dieticians, meet healthy daily dietary guidelines established by the USDA.
The Southeast Produce Council Expo provides a great venue for us to highlight the results from our annual programs and share information about how we are growing with the industry, said Heidi McIntyre, PFK executive director. Were proud of our efforts to promote healthy lifestyles for families by educating kids and parents about the benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables in new and innovative ways.
Our consumer research shows moms are hungry for information about healthy cooking using fresh produce items. Our new meal solutions cards make it easy to shop for and prepare healthy and delicious meals for their families.
