PBH Achieves Social Media Milestones

Fruits & Veggies—More Matters Facebook and Twitter Accounts Are Booming

Consumers, Public Health Communities, and the Fruit and Vegetable Industry continue to respond very favorably to the Fruits & Veggies-More Matters® national health campaign on Facebook and Twitter.  These supporters and others helped Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) achieve two social media marketing milestones earlier this week – 100,000+ likes for the Fruits & Veggies—More Matters Facebook page and 25,000+ followers on Twitter!

"I am thrilled to share these significant social media milestones with our community of supporters, and pleased to know we are reaching so many consumers, fruit and vegetable industry members, health care workers, bloggers, and others through our social media efforts," said Elizabeth Pivonka, Ph.D., R.D., president and CEO of PBH. "It has been exciting to watch these numbers steadily grow month after month.”

Information on fruits and vegetables that consumers find helpful, such as the About the Buzz (keeping up with the latest fruit and vegetable news and research), recipes, selection, and storage tips, pictures of healthy meals that follow the MyPlate nutrition guideline, and articles written by supermarket dietitians all appear on the Fruits & Veggies-More Matters web page, Facebook page, and as links in tweets on Twitter.

PBH has shared social media ‘lessons learned and tips’ with donors over the last several months through Twitter chats, one-on-one outreach, and by offering sample posts and tweets.  On February 27, 2013, PBH will host a ‘social media 101’ Twitter chat from 4:00pm – 5:00 pm, hashtag #socialmedia101.  All are welcome to participate and share tips and lessons learned.  In addition to this chat, PBH also hosts monthly Twitter chats on the first Wednesday of each month.  The sample monthly posts and tweets can be easily customized and found on the PBH Foundation website. PBH also started a Pinterest account in June 2012 and currently has just under 2,500 followers.
