Miss. Fruit, Vegetable Group Seeks Nano-Farmers

A Mississippi Fruit and Vegetable Growers Conference and Tradeshow Thursday and Friday in Natchez builds on "buy local" trends and seeks to bring more growers into the fold.

Hosted by the Mississippi Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association, the conference takes place at the Natchez Convention Center. It's held in conjunction with the Mississippi Agritourism Association and the Gulf South Blueberry Growers Association.

Goals include providing large and small growers and backyard gardeners with information on industry trends and aspects of production from seed variety selection to marketing.

In past years, Mississippi has joined with other states in such an effort, but this is the first time in many years the state groups have combined to put on such a conference, said Paige Manning of the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, which has helped in planning and marketing.
