A Gormley, Ont.-based business specializing in organic microgreens and potted lettuce has sprouted up in the Hamilton area, expanding to a 35-acre plot of provincial Greenbelt land.
The appropriately named Greenbelt Microgreens took over a former floral operation on Woodhill Road near Highway 5 in June.
After extensive renovations, production started at the 3.5-acre greenhouse about a month ago, said Ian Adamson, who co-owns the company along with Tracy Wilson and Michael Curry.
"We were looking to build additional space at our Gormley facility, and with the robotics and equipment … already existing at Woodhill, it just made a lot of sense."
