LINDSAY, CALIF., February 21, 2011 – LoBue Citrus recently announced the launch of Ribbitz™ — a new brand of seedless mandarin oranges in bold, kid-friendly packaging.
With packaging featuring a smiling frog touting the message “hoppin’ with flavor,” Ribbitz mandarins are the perfect citrus for kids of all ages: sweet, easy to peel and just the right size for lunch boxes and on-the-go snacking.
In a recent strategic review of the category, LoBue recognized that parents are increasingly challenged to find snacks that hit the trifecta: delicious, portable and healthy. That discussion led LoBue to mandarins—and to developing Ribbitz, a smile-inducing brand that resonates equally with parents, children and the retailers who want to draw them over to the produce aisle.
“We’re thrilled to encourage more healthy eating choices, especially for kids with a citrus item that’s convenient and delicious,” said Rick Osterhues said Rick Osterhues, vice president of sales and marketing at LoBue Citrus. “Ribbitz is all about bringing ‘fun’ to folks of all ages. We’ll be supporting promotions and events to reinforce the excitement, convenience and great flavor.”
Ribbitz mandarins are on trend with growing consumer demand for more choice in fresh, healthy snacks. Today, fruits and vegetables are taking center stage in discussions about public health. Fueled by the continued rise in obesity and obesity-related diseases, advocates from the USDA to the First Lady Michelle Obama are touting the importance of fresh produce.
The 2010-2011 season marks the second year of commercial mandarin harvests for LoBue Citrus. Mandarins in the Ribbitz brand are available in 2-, 3-, and 5-pound wrap bags; a 4/5# tray pack; and bulk half cartons (20 LB). Supplies are expected through May.
The new Ribbitz brand follows the recent introductions of Heritage Reserve Navel oranges and a new line of consumer packaging for California premium citrus. These new product initiatives reflect LoBue’s commitment to meeting consumer demand for flavorful, healthy citrus by creating high-impact items that can help drive overall citrus category sales.
