As people want to know more about where their food comes from and how it gets from field to table, JV Smith Companies has asked their planters, tractor drivers, irrigators, harvesters, office staff and their entire team to help them tell the story of what they do by sharing stories, photographs, videos and more. In two presentations this past month, the JV Smith Companies social media team gave insight into their online presence, including the who, what, and why regarding the audience interested in what they do. Within 2 minutes of the presentation, team members were sharing ideas, engaging in how they could help and pulling out their phones to send messages via text and messenger.
Although this is an entirely voluntary request, CEO Vic Smith was excited with the response. Vic explained, "We know we have amazing employees that work very hard and love what they do. What we weren't sure of was whether they would want to participate in this outreach plan and help us share both the JV story and the broader agriculture story with millions of people. They make me proud to have such a great group of people working together in pursuing our mission and furthering our values."

JV Smith Companies is a diverse group with farming and cooling operations, as well as distribution facilities and shipping capacities in Arizona, California, Colorado and Baja, Mexico. Skyview Cooling was their first operation formed in 1970 and began as a cooling company in Colorado and New Mexico. By 1977, it had expanded to Yuma and then in 1982 it began operations in northern Mexico. Today, JV Smith Companies farm a number of commodities including conventional romaine, iceberg lettuce, spinach, potatoes, mixed leaf and organic spring mix, carrots, celery, romaine, and green onions.
