Jorge Alvarado is bringing over a decade of experience in international supply chain management, especially in the regions of Central and South America, to Valley Fruit and Produce. Most recently, Jorge Alvarado was Supply Chain/Research and Development Manager at Global Fresh where he was responsible for developing and executing the company’s import programs for tropical fruits, melons, root vegetables, and other specialty commodities. In his role at Valley, he will leverage his experience and knowledge to build a robust direct import program that spans the globe across the full-line of fruits and vegetables that Valley offers. This will benefit Valley’s customers greatly in terms of both quality, pricing. Valley’s CFO, Carrie La Londe, said, “One of our strategic imperatives is expanding our international footprint and import direct from growers world-wide. We are very pleased to have someone with Jorge’s experience and track record leading our international team to help us streamline our supply chain by partnering with premier grower partners.”
A goal for Valley’s import program is to improve the predictability of supply, quality, and pricing to the customer base. Jorge shared, “I am eager to get feedback from Valley’s customers across the many channels; retail, foodservice, and fresh-cut, on our imported products so we can continue to work with our growers to create customized solutions. Valley’s diverse customer base and financial stability create a strong foundation on which to grow a fantastic direct import program.” Valley’s first loads of direct import pineapples and mangoes began arriving in August.
