Oppy and JAZZ™ apples joined U.S. Vice President Joe Biden at the annual Beau Biden Memorial Trail Race in Delaware’s Brandywine Valley in mid-March—raising funds and awareness for the late Beau Biden’s crusade to stand up and speak out for children suffering abuse.
At the start of the 5 and 10 K race, which supported the Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children, Vice President Biden joined the singing of the national anthem. The Vice President was moved to tears as he spoke of the efforts of those present to help advance his son’s commitment to stop child abuse.
“Vice President Biden was touched by the outpouring of support and loyalty to Beau’s crusade demonstrated by the number of participants taking part in this year’s Memorial Trail Race,” said Oppy BDR TJ Wilson. “We were honored to be part of the event.”
Beau Biden was born in Wilmington, not far from the Oppy office in Newark, Del. He was a popular state attorney general until he succumbed to brain cancer in May of last year.
Wilson was joined by Oppy Sales Rep Rob Campbell and Quality Control Assistant Sarah Chiari who participated in the run.
“Before and after the race, we sampled JAZZ apples to race participants and their families who gave us very positive feedback on the variety,” Wilson said. “For many, one slice just wasn’t enough. Lots of people came back for seconds, thirds, and even whole apples to satisfy their newly found JAZZ apple cravings.”
Oppy offers Washington-grown JAZZ through May, and New Zealand JAZZ May through October.
