Giumarra Completes First Year As Feeding America Sponsor

LOS ANGELES – August 16, 2010 – Giumarra is pleased to announce the completion of its first year as a sponsor of Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief charity.

As a fund-raising partner of Feeding America, Giumarra has donated a total of $50,000 to the organization to date. The funds were collected through a combination of promotions with retail partners and company-matched employee contributions. The contributions were made to the national office of Chicago-based Feeding America and its member food banks throughout the nation.

In 2009, Giumarra also donated more than 150,000 pounds of fresh produce, including cantaloupe, watermelon, stone fruit and other items. “Feeding America is grateful to the Giumarra Companies for their contributions of both funds and fresh produce to help us feed the millions of Americans who live at risk of hunger,” says Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America. “Our food banks and the food pantries and the soup kitchens they serve are now feeding more than 5.7 million people each and every week – an increase of 46 percent in just four short years. Giumarra has stepped forward to help us in a time of great need.”

The USDA reports that 49 million Americans struggle with food insecurity.

“We are very grateful to Feeding America, our growers and our retail partners who worked with us to make these contributions possible,” says Hillary Brick, Senior V.P. Marketing at Giumarra. “‘Feeding the world in a healthy way’ is something we live by and this partnership assists us in making our philosophy a reality.”

She noted that Feeding America serves 37 million Americans per year, and that according to the Feeding America website, one in eight Americans struggle with hunger.

Giumarra will continue its partnership with Feeding America through 2011.
