Hold the onions: The state appeals court says the state has the power to tell Georgia's Vidalia onion farmers not to pick their crop too soon.
Last year, Tattnall County farmer Troy Bland sued Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black. He argued that Black overstepped his authority by requiring Vidalia onion farmers to wait until April 21 to ship.
Vidalia sweet onions are so popular that the Georgia General Assembly passed the "Vidalia Onion Act" in 1986, which trademarked the onions and regulated the industry.
Black and some onion farmers argue that farmers like Bland have hurt the brand by shipping poor-quality onions too soon.
