NORFOLK – "Caution. Baby carrots on board."
So read the back of a van Wednesday at the YMCA on Granby Street for the launch of the FNV — or "fruits 'n' veggies" — mobile market. The market will travel around Norfolk and will include cooking demonstrations and live music.
Red, yellow and green produce lay on outdoor tables, and a local band played as people milled about. A small crowd gathered to listen to officials, including Virginia's first lady, Dorothy McAuliffe, who lauded the effort.
"What our children eat is critical to their health, success and educational opportunity," McAuliffe said. "That's why we're all here."
