IRVING, TX — DMA Solutions, Inc., a marketing services company, along with several members of the fresh produce industry, has backed a documentary film seeking to present the relationships formed via social media as legitimate and powerful in the daily lives of consumers.
The film is inspired by the popular Twitter hashtag #followfriday, which Twitter users employ to recommend other Twitter users to each other. Today, progressive filmmaker Erin Faulk sets out on an 8,000 plus mile, 28-day journey across the United States to seek out and speak with experts in the field of social media and discuss the way online interactions are changing how businesses and consumers communicate. In addition, Faulk will meet face-to-face with 140 of the people she communicates with on Twitter each day.
“Everyone keeps asking, ‘so you don’t know these people in real life?’ and I think that’s funny – because in an increasingly connected and digital age, the internet IS real life,” Faulk said. “I talk to these people more than I talk to my neighbors!”
DMA President and social media enthusiast, Dan’l Mackey Almy, heard about the film and was immediately interested in Faulk’s project. As someone that is always exploring new ways for fresh produce companies to connect with both consumers and retailers in the social media space, Almy knew Faulk was on to something and offered support for the project.
“My first thoughts about this journey were, ‘what’re they going to EAT?’ and the challenge of finding fresh options while on the road,” Almy said. “Then, as I was looking at their scheduled route, I realized that they’ll be driving through many of the areas where fresh fruits and vegetables are grown. I knew right away that our industry could help – by not only solving their road trip food dilemma, but also by supporting the film with their broad social reach.”
Almy and the DMA Team spread the news of the project to fellow industry members and soon Faulk had an arsenal of fresh produce companies offering support for the film via their page on Kickstarter.com, a funding platform for creative projects.
The contingency of FRESH backers include California Giant Berry Farms, Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Mann Packing, Potandon Produce/Klondike Brands, Crunch Pak, DMA Solutions, Gills Onions, Mastronardi/Sunset Produce, Moonlit Farms, Onion Crunch, and Stemilt Growers.
“We are thrilled to be involved in this unique opportunity for our industry to fuel this film crew with fresh products as they bring a new, personal dimension to the social media revolution,” says Almy. “It’s a very exciting project and we can’t wait to see the finished film!”
