GULFPORT, MS – Fresh fruit from Central America is moving through Gulfport on its way to dinner tables across America. It's a perishable food "dream come true" for Mike Alise and his company, Gulf Coast International Cargo.
That facility at the Gulfport-Biloxi international airport is finally achieving the success its owner envisioned.
"What's exciting is this product is fresh. We got it in a couple days ago. The consumers will have it in their hands in the next 24 to 72 hours," explained Mike Alise, as he gave a tour of the refrigerated cargo area.
Thousands of cases of melons are stacked high in the coolers at Gulf Coast International Cargo. It's a frigid 37 degrees, as Mike Alise proudly shows off what he calls "the fruits of our labor."
