DENVER — A series of short training videos, just released by the United States Potato Board (USPB), aims to help retailers realize better sales from their fresh potato category. The online videos are free, and can be found by visiting www.PotatoRetailer.com or www.USFreshPotatoTraining.com.
The “Fresh Potato Associate Training Modules” ensure produce associates are armed with the information they need to get the most out of the potato category. Knowledgeable produce associates serve as a valuable ally to educate and motivate shoppers, helping increase sales. In addition, proper storage and handling of the potato table maintains quality and decreases shrink, helping to maximize sales.
This new tool from the USPB features five potato training modules covering harvest and packaging, storage and handling, potato varieties, nutrition, and marketing strategies. Each module is a short, entertaining, and informative video followed by a quiz. Associates can complete the entire five-module training in less than half an hour, or complete the training in a series of steps. After completing all modules, associates can print out a certificate showing they have passed the potato training course.
These new fresh potato training modules are only the latest addition to the USPB’s online retailer portal, an industry resource providing information on potato research, nutrition, performance tracking and best practices. By going to www.PotatoRetailer.com, retailers can download the latest potato category trends and research and access other tools such as the recently completed comprehensive training manual for the handling and sales of fresh potatoes.
