LA MIRADA, CA — On May 26, 2011, the Board of Directors of the Fresh Produce & Floral Council (FPFC) authorized a $5,000 contribution to the Orange County Food Bank. The donation is specifically to subsidize transportation costs involved with the Food Bank’s Farm 2 Kids program, which educates schoolchildren about healthy nutrition and provides fresh produce to children of needy families.
Long time supporters of the Orange County Food Bank, the FPFC is an involved supporter of this new program and will be helping to connect Farm 2 Kids to member companies to secure fresh produce for the produce bags that are supplied to children.
“The industry has always been very responsive to the product needs of the Food Bank,” says FPFC President Carissa Mace. “But the Board realized that there would be considerable cost involved in collecting donated product from warehouses and then delivering it to Orange County schools. This contribution reflects the Board’s commitment to making sure Farm 2 Kids is a success.”
The Fresh Produce & Floral Council also collects cash donations and fresh and non-perishable food items for the Food Bank at its membership luncheons, and the Food Bank is one of the beneficiaries of the Council’s annual Holiday Luncheon & Charity Auction. The FPFC was recently nominated by the Food Bank to receive the Spirit of Volunteerism Award presented by OneOC.
