LAKE ALFRED – More citrus growers may be carrying pocket fruit knives if they bring as much fortune against citrus greening as one did for Rick Dantzler on Tuesday.
Just after the board of directors of the Citrus Research and Development Foundation unanimously selected Dantzler as its new top executive, the former state legislator from Winter Haven told them he always carries a pocket knife.
Each morning, he selects one from five in his collection based on what would be most appropriate for the day, Dantzler said. So that morning, he selected a fruit knife a citrus grower once gave him.
