First Shipment Of Peruvian Grapes Are Imported Through The Port Of Miami

Miami, Florida – Complejo Beta, a grower of Peruvian grapes, and Alpine Fresh, Inc., a packer, shipper, and distributor of grapes made history on December 2nd, 2013 being the first company to import grapes through the port of Miami.

Prior to December 2013, the ports of New York and Los Angeles were the only ports authorized by the USDA to import grapes from Peru into the US. All shipments of Peruvian grapes brought into the US must undergo “Cold treatment,” before entering the country.

Since 2008 Complejo Beta has partnered with Alpine Fresh, Inc. to bring Peruvian grapes to the US market. The USDA’s decision to authorize the Port Miami allowed Alpine Fresh, Inc. to be the first company to bring grapes into Miami rather than New York, and thus providing southeastern retailers with fresher product for the consumers at a lower cost.

“Importing directly to Miami, Florida will save us the cost of freight in having to bring the grapes from New York to Miami allowing Alpine Fresh, Inc. to provide consumers with fresher product at a lower cost,” says Alpine Fresh, Inc. C.E.O Walter Yager. “We are very excited to be able to expand our reach and appreciate the efforts of the USDA, Port Miami, CBP, and all the other parties it took to achieve this.”
