Helping yet another farmer get through regulatory demands and certification paperwork is what gets Doug Mattes, owner of Agricultural Production Safety, LLC, waking up excited to get to work everyday.
Farm-raised and a California State Polytechnic University alumni, Doug spent 38 years in regulatory enforcement with the County Agricultural Commission in California. Upon his retirement from the Commission in 2007, Doug felt the urge to continue working with farmers, so he decided to put his years of experience to good use, helping farmers keep up with the continuing changes in agricultural regulations and issues.
After successfully implementing a new food safety division in a local company, Doug decided to form Agricultural Production Safety, LLC (APS) in 2012. Though APS consults on all food safety schemes, they most frequently recommend GLOBALG.A.P., which is one of the reasons they chose to join the GLOBALG.A.P. Farm Assurer program.
“For growers in California, GLOBALG.A.P. is a logical next step as a complete food safety program, as it encompasses all that is required by California law, and most growers will only have to develop a food safety cross contamination protection program to reach certification,” explains Doug Mattes.
