West Bridgewater, Massachusetts – March is Equal Exchange Banana Month. Every year, Equal Exchange dedicates this month to highlighting its unique fair trade, small farmer banana supply chain with new educational resources, videos, point-of-sales materials, and interactive projects.
The theme for the 2019 campaign is “Unconventional,” which aims to emphasize the differences between conventionally-produced bananas and Equal Exchange’s certified organic, fair trade fruit. Equal Exchange partners with unconventional businesses across the supply chain: from the small farmer cooperatives growing and exporting the bananas to the independent retailers making them available to conscious eaters. Together these diverse businesses demonstrate that “unconventional” bananas can succeed in the market.
Equal Exchange is challenging retailers to share this movement with their customers and networks with brand-new store signage and shareable videos, which can be found here:
Additionally, the 2019 campaign features an interactive, creative component. Equal Exchange is engaging stakeholders in a collective art project celebrating unconventional bananas, and hopes to receive submissions from representatives across the supply chain – from farmers, to distributors, to co-op staff and consumers. See the open call for submissions to learn more.
For the past 30 years, Equal Exchange has built an alternative model of trade that directly links small-scale farmer cooperatives and consumers through long-term, fair trade partnerships. Visit http://www.beyondthepeel.com/and http://equalexchange.coop/for more information.
