The Memorial School in Union Beach, New Jersey was closed for eight months due to super storm Sandy. Students from pre-K through eighth grade were displaced as water inundated their school. Prior to the storm, it had 800 students and over a year later, that number is down to 650.
The salad bar is a home run with the children; fresh fruits and vegetable consumption is up considerably. School officials, EPC President, Paul Kneeland, EPC Executive Director John McAleavey, New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture, Douglas Fisher, and Assistant Secretary of Agriculture, Al Murray, were on hand to formally open a new era of healthy eating through fresh produce and nutritional menus for the students.
