Brawley, CA – It’s time to unfold the sweet flavor of the Origami cantaloupe, as Legend Produce's harvest is underway!
The art of this year's early harvest for the Origami was planting earlier and letting Mother Nature’s recent trend of warm weather ripen the melons at the perfect time. The real beauty of the unique cantaloupe, known for its thin rind and small cavity, lies within the exceptional sweet flavor. The average brix range is expected to be 12-14% for this year's early crop, which will bring an excellent flavor profile.
“This is the earliest we have harvested cantaloupe, both California and Arizona, in over 30 years,” says Barry Zwillinger of Legend Produce. “We have had ideal growing conditions producing our finest crop ever! Size, aroma and flavor are absolutely exceptional.”
With the earliest harvest in more than three decades and the increasing popularity of these exclusive cantaloupes, this year is expected to yet again surpass expectations. In fact, the success of the amazing Origami over the last five years, with retailers, food service and processor outlets alike, has led to an increase of acreage with each harvest. Last year, Legend Produce dedicated a majority of its production to the Origami variety.
The Origami cantaloupe will be available through summer and into early fall. Harvest in California begins today, with the Yuma, AZ harvest following a few days later on May 5. Multiple growing locations will ensure good availability of the Origami cantaloupe throughout the season.
